Plan K Overview

Medicare Supplemental Plan K offers partial coverage for a section of services but not all. Compared to the cost of other plans Plan K has higher deductibles but lower premiums; however, the lower cost also means a lesser amount of coverage. What Plan K Covers

The only expense that is fully covered by Plan K Supplemental insurance is the entirety of Medicare Part A which Is coinsurance and an additional year or (365 days) of inpatient hospital care.

Medigap Plan K only covers 50% of the following expenses:

  • Copayments and coinsurance not covered by Medicare Part B
  • First three pints of blood drawn
  • Copayments or Coinsurance for hospice care which is not covered by Medicare Part A
  • Coinsurance for skilled nursing care
  • Deductible for Medicare Part A

What Plan K Does Not Cover

  • Part A deductibles
  • Part B deductibles
  • Part B excess charges for doctors who charge up to 15% more than allotted Medicare amount
  • Expenses incurred for emergency foreign travel care

Plan K has the highest deductibles out of all 10 Medigap plans. The 2017 deductible amount for Medicare Supplemental Insurance Plan K is set at $5,120. Once this deductible has been reached the plan will cover 100% of the above sections of coverage.
